Johanna Coutinho Vogt is a Cuban American originally from Miami, Florida. After working in the veterinary industry for 15 years and earning a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Animal Science from the University of Florida, she recognized the impact nutrition had on pets with chronic diseases, such as cancer and kidney disease. Her interests transferred to human populations during her own struggles with an autoimmune disease. Johanna began questioning fad diets and became eager to learn the science of nutrition. So, she took a leap and moved to Jacksonville in 2014 to pursue a new career in nutrition and dietetics, eager to help others repair and nurture their relationships with food.

Johanna is passionate about taking a non-diet approach to health, as she believes individuals are not defined by numbers or disease state. Health is an intricate concept to her, dependent on self-care and compassion. She promotes the power of lifestyle changes related to nutrition, movement and behavior modifications, over efforts focused solely on weight loss. Johanna also maintains a strong interest in medical nutrition therapy for chronic diseases, particularly in the scope of endocrine disorders, such as thyroid disease and diabetes.

Johanna earned a B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of North Florida, where she will also be earning a Master of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics this April. She completed her specialty rotation in nutrition counseling with Preferred Nutrition Services as a dietetic intern in Fall 2017 and stayed on to grow with us! Her goals as a registered dietitian/nutritionist include helping people trust their bodies to eat more intuitively and increasing variety in their diets; expanding nutrition services to the Hispanic population whose primary language is Spanish, especially in diabetes self-management education; and helping others recognize the best versions of themselves through mindful practices.

Johanna is excited to be part of our team, and we are thrilled to have her on board!
